Neros opens Swindon manufacturing hub
Neros
The Swindon site shows that Neros is no longer just exporting drones into Europe, it is planting production inside a buyer market where governments increasingly want local supply, local jobs, and local control over defense hardware. In practice, that means Neros can bid as a company with UK manufacturing, shorten delivery and support loops, and present itself less like a distant vendor and more like part of Europe’s defense industrial base.1 2 3 4
- This is Neros’ first production facility outside the U.S., tied to a planned investment of up to £10M over five years in the Swindon area. That turns the company from a single country manufacturer into a transatlantic one, with hardware assembly capacity on both sides of the Atlantic.1 2
- The move fits the company’s sales motion. Neros already won a contract to supply 6,000 Archer systems to the International Drone Capability Coalition for Ukraine, so a UK base places manufacturing closer to coalition buyers and the governments funding replenishment orders.5 6 7
- Peers are making similar localization bets, but at different scale and geography. Anduril is building Arsenal 1 in Ohio for very high volume U.S. output, while Quantum Systems expanded in the UK through acquiring Nordic Unmanned UK. Neros is following the same logic with a smaller, targeted European foothold.3 4 8 9
Going forward, defense drone winners are likely to look less like pure design shops and more like distributed manufacturers with local factories near allied buyers. For Neros, Swindon is the first step toward that model, and it positions the company to turn one off contracts into repeat procurement across the UK and wider Europe.1 3 4 5
