Plaid becomes embedded lending infrastructure
Plaid
This expansion turns Plaid from a point integration into embedded lending infrastructure. Instead of asking each lender to wire Plaid into its own application flow, Plaid can now show up inside the credit and loan software lenders already use to price risk, verify income, and move an application to approval. That matters most in mortgage, auto, and BNPL, where incumbent workflows are sticky and distribution usually comes through the system of record, not a new standalone API.1 2 3 4 5 6
- Experian makes Plaid usable inside a familiar bureau and decisioning workflow. A borrower consents to share bank data, Plaid generates a consumer report, Experian turns that into a Cashflow Score or attributes, and the lender receives the result in near real time inside its existing credit process.2 7
- FICO gives Plaid an on ramp into score driven underwriting. The partnership feeds Plaid cash flow data into UltraFICO, which lets lenders use checking account behavior, like balances and cash cushion, alongside a standard credit file when setting approvals and pricing.3 8 9
- MeridianLink is the workflow wedge. Its lending software is already used across consumer, mortgage, home equity, and auto lending, and the live integration with Plaid income verification means Plaid can be turned on as part of the loan origination stack rather than sold lender by lender as a separate build.4 5 10
The next step is for Plaid to become default plumbing for cash flow underwriting across more of the loan lifecycle. Once lenders start with income verification inside partner systems, the natural expansion is into fraud checks, cash flow based pricing, and repeat use across origination, servicing, and portfolio decisions.1 3 5 9
