a recently opened office in Egypt that strengthens its presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region—positioning GrubMarket to source high-demand Egyptian citrus for its global customer base

The Egypt office matters because it turns GrubMarket from a mainly US produce distributor with imported supply into a closer to origin fruit network, where the company can buy citrus nearer the farm, coordinate export logistics earlier, and sell into multiple end markets through the same platform. That makes supply more resilient and gives GrubMarket a better shot at margin on high volume fruit that already moves globally at scale.1 2 3 4 5

  • Egypt is not a random beachhead. It is one of the world’s biggest citrus export hubs. Official Egyptian reporting says citrus led the country’s farm exports at about 2 million tons in 2025, and USDA market reporting shows Egyptian oranges are shipped heavily into Asia and Europe.4 5
  • GrubMarket already had the pipes to use that supply. The 2022 Salix Fruits acquisition added hundreds of growers across more than 20 countries, over 450 business customers in 50 countries, and a product mix centered on apples, lemons, oranges, tangerines, pears, and grapes. Egypt plugs into that existing fruit trading engine, not a blank slate.2 3
  • This fits a broader pattern in GrubMarket’s produce roll up. Sierra Produce expanded South American fruit sourcing into the US, while the Egypt move extends the map into MENA. In practice, this means GrubMarket can source fruit in one region, route it through import and export channels it already controls, and also layer WholesaleWare software onto acquired distributors.2 6

The next step is a denser origin network around a few produce categories that travel well and trade year round, especially citrus and other fruit. If GrubMarket keeps adding local offices and exporter relationships in supply rich regions, it can become harder to displace because it will control both the buying side at origin and the selling software used by wholesalers downstream.1 2 3 6
