Gamma evolving into research assistant
Gamma
This pushes Gamma up the stack from slide maker to workflow tool for knowledge work. Once Gamma can search the web, attach citations, and pull in spreadsheet data, it stops being just the place where findings are formatted and becomes part of the actual research process. That matters most in finance, strategy, and operations work, where people need a source trail, quick charts, and a polished deck in one pass.1 2 3 4 5
- Gamma has already productized this shift. Gamma 3.0 added Gamma Agent for web research with citations, and the current Agent flow can gather sources before writing, then build the deck while showing its plan and progress.1 2 4
- The data piece is becoming concrete, not theoretical. Gamma supports Excel embedding today, and its help docs show a practical spreadsheet workflow where .xlsx files are converted to CSV or routed through Google Sheets so the agent can use them as source material.3 5
- This also changes the competitive set. Gamma is no longer only compared with presentation startups like Tome or Pitch. It starts to overlap with work assistants like Notion and enterprise research tools, because the user is asking one tool to gather facts, draft the narrative, and package the output.1 6 7 8
The next step is deeper integration between research inputs and presentation outputs. As Gamma connects more directly to spreadsheets, files, and external apps, the winning use case becomes recurring reporting, board updates, and client deliverables where the same live data and cited research can be refreshed into a new narrative every week.2 3 4 5
