Navan enables card-linking with Citi and AmEx
Navan
These bank partnerships turn Navan from a card replacement product into a workflow layer that can sit on top of the cards big companies already use. That matters because enterprise finance teams rarely want to rip out a Citi or AmEx program just to get better expense automation. Navan Connect lets them keep the bank relationship, stream card data into travel and expense, and automate reconciliation inside the same system they use to book trips and enforce policy.1 2 3 4 5
- The Citi partnership gave Navan a direct path into Citi Commercial Bank clients, while Citi kept its own card program in place. Citi said its commercial cards business serves more than 25,000 global programs, 7 million cardholders, and over $42B in annual U.S. charge volume, which shows why partnership beats trying to displace incumbent bank rails one customer at a time.2 3
- The AmEx Sync integration, announced on July 29, 2025, extended this model to American Express U.S. Business and Corporate Cards. Instead of asking a company to reissue cards, Navan lets employees create virtual cards for travel bookings, while pending and cleared transactions flow straight into the expense dashboard for policy checks and month end close.1 5
- This also explains Navan's positioning versus Ramp and Brex. Ramp pushes the all in one stack harder, while Brex has become a preferred card partner inside enterprise point solutions like Navan and Coupa. Navan is keeping the door open to existing bank cards, then using deeper card partnerships where tighter reconciliation and virtual card workflows matter most.4 6
The next step is for Navan to become the default control plane for corporate travel spend, regardless of which bank owns the underlying card. As coverage expands across more issuers, currencies, and card types, Navan gets harder to replace because the booking workflow, payment workflow, and accounting workflow all start to live in one place.4 5
