Stripe Programmable Money Control Plane

Stripe

Company Report
creating a programmable money-movement layer outside traditional card rails

Stripe is trying to own the software layer that tells money where to go, not just the card swipe that moves it. Open Issuance turns stablecoins into a product that platforms can launch, route, and settle through APIs, while Privy adds the wallet layer that lets apps and agents actually hold and spend those funds. That moves Stripe closer to becoming for internet money what AWS became for internet compute, the default control plane underneath many different end products.1 2 4 5

  • Traditional card rails are built for consumer checkout and charge a high toll for authorization, interchange, and settlement. Stablecoin rails are better for cross border payroll, treasury, supplier payouts, and agent micropayments because funds can move 24, 7, settle quickly, and be embedded directly into software logic.1 4 6
  • Bridge makes this concrete by letting a business launch its own branded stablecoin instead of just accepting USDC or USDT. That means the issuer can control wallet experience, redemption, and distribution, and pair the coin with onramps, offramps, cards, and wallets from Bridge, Privy, and Stripe.1 2 6
  • Privy matters because programmable money needs programmable wallets. AWS AgentCore payments already uses Stripe Privy as a wallet option for agents buying APIs and content, which shows how Stripe can sit inside the full flow from funded wallet, to spending limits, to autonomous payment execution, without a card ever appearing.4 5

The next step is a Stripe stack where companies issue value, store value, authorize value, and settle value in one system across people, businesses, and AI agents. If that stack keeps spreading through platforms like AWS and AI surfaces like ChatGPT and Copilot, Stripe can expand from payment processor into the default transaction operating system for onchain commerce.2 4 5 7
