Beehiiv is turning podcasting into a feature inside a creator SaaS stack, not a toll road. That matters because podcasters who already run newsletters on Beehiiv can now publish audio, sell subscriptions, and keep their gross revenue instead of giving up 8% to 12% on Patreon or 10% on Substack. The move extends Beehiiv’s playbook of charging software fees while monetizing adjacent services like ads, which lets it underprice take rate competitors on creator earnings.1 2 3 4 5

  • Beehiiv already makes money in a mixed model. By June 2025 it was at an estimated $30M annualized revenue, with about one third from its ad network and Boosts marketplace. That gives Beehiiv another revenue stream to fund a 0% creator cut on new formats like podcasts.1 2
  • Substack’s 10% cut buys creators more than billing. Its retention comes from discovery and social distribution, especially recommendations and the Substack network, even though some writers still see the fee as a large cost once revenue scales. Beehiiv is attacking the same monetization layer with better unit economics.3 5
  • This is also a category collision. Patreon is a membership tool, Substack is a writer first publishing network, and Beehiiv started as newsletter software. Adding podcasts pushes all three toward the same creator workflow, audience capture, recurring payments, and monetization from one dashboard.4 5

The next step is a tighter bundle where newsletter, podcast, ads, referrals, and payments all reinforce each other. If Beehiiv can make audio another reason creators keep their list and billing on platform, it can keep taking share from revenue cut incumbents and deepen its position as the higher margin home base for creator businesses.1 2 4
