Nous enabling heterogeneous GPU training

Diving deeper into

Nous Research

Company Report
If the network can make heterogeneous compute dependable, Nous can serve research groups, open-source communities, and smaller model companies that cannot reserve hyperscale clusters.

The real prize is not cheaper GPUs, it is a new training market built around compute that big labs ignore because it is too fragmented to trust. Psyche matters if it can turn a messy pool of different machines, in different places, with different uptime, into a training run that keeps making forward progress. That would give Nous a way to sell training capacity to teams that cannot lock up 64 H100s or sign long bare metal contracts, while feeding its own model work with the same infrastructure.1 2 3 4

  • The closest comparable is Prime Intellect. It built around the same core idea, aggregate global GPUs, tolerate nodes joining and leaving, and route work across heterogeneous hardware. Its public training runs show the product is possible in principle, but also how much engineering is needed before decentralized training becomes dependable instead of experimental.2 5 6
  • RunPod shows the adjacent market on the other side. It does not try to knit together random internet GPUs. It offers ready made multi node clusters with up to 64 H100s on high speed interconnects. That is simpler for customers, but it still depends on concentrated supply. Psyche is chasing the harder problem, using supply that conventional cluster products cannot easily use.3 7
  • Dependability here means more than uptime. The network has to keep training quality stable when machines are slower, drop off, or sit behind weaker network links. If that works, the customer base broadens from crypto native contributors to university labs, open source model collectives, and smaller AI companies that need results more than perfect hardware symmetry.1 2 4 6

This is heading toward a split market. Frontier labs will keep buying tightly coupled clusters, while a second tier of model builders uses software to turn scattered GPUs into usable training capacity. If Psyche proves reliable, Nous can own that second lane and compound it into models, training data, and tooling that get better with every run.1 2 3 4 5
