Locus exists because Amazon turned a promising warehouse robot category into an internal advantage, leaving the rest of ecommerce to find a new supplier. Kiva proved that moving shelves to workers could slash wasted walking time, but it required expensive warehouse rebuilds. Locus rebuilt the idea for ordinary third party warehouses, using robots that navigate existing aisles and roll to pickers, so operators can add automation in weeks instead of redesigning a building for months.
