Reviewing context
Pix Credit shows that the real money in Brazilian payments is shifting from moving money to financing it. Plain Pix makes checkout cheap and fast, but it leaves little room for margin. By letting a shopper split a Pix purchase into installments while the merchant still gets paid right away, CloudWalk turns a low fee payment rail into a higher yield credit product inside the same checkout flow.1 2 3 4
- This matters because Pix is already huge and structurally cheaper than cards. In 2024, Pix reached 47% of Brazil's non cash payment transactions, while CloudWalk cites merchant cost of about 0.22% on Pix versus 2.34% on credit cards. That compresses payment margins and pushes acquirers toward credit, lending, and software for monetization.3 4
- Brazil already has deep consumer habit around paying in installments. Banco Central data for late 2025 shows only 51.9% of credit card purchase value was paid at once, with the rest spread across installments. Pix Credit recreates that familiar behavior on top of an instant bank transfer rail, so CloudWalk can capture economics that plain Pix would otherwise bypass.5 6
- CloudWalk has the distribution to test this at scale. It serves more than 6M merchants and had reached $1.3B in annualized revenue in 2025, after expanding from card acceptance into digital accounts, working capital loans, free Pix, and now Pix Credit. That makes installment credit an add on to an existing merchant relationship, not a separate product that needs fresh acquisition spend.1 2
The next step is a fuller closed loop, where CloudWalk originates more consumer and merchant credit on its own rails and funds more of it inside its ecosystem. If that works, Pix stops being a threat to acquiring margins and becomes the base layer for a broader lending business with higher take rate per merchant.1 2 4
