Factory instead sits one layer behind the workflow, orchestrating agents across repos, tickets, tests, security, and incidents without controlling the daily surface where habits form and seat expansion starts.

  • Cursor started as an AI native IDE, then expanded into background agents, API automation, enterprise analytics, and broader coding workflows. That means its wedge is not just code generation, but the default place a developer opens in the morning, which naturally pulls adjacent automation into the same product.
