The risk is that agent orchestration is becoming a feature of the systems enterprises already buy, not a separate budget line. Factory sells Droids that take a task like fixing a bug or migrating a service, inspect the repo, edit files, run tests, and open a pull request for approval. That workflow now overlaps directly with Codex, Claude Code, GitHub agents, and AWS agent runtime and governance layers, which can arrive bundled with model, repo, or cloud spend.

  • GitHub is moving furthest into the control plane. Its enterprise AI Controls let admins turn coding agents on or off, review agent sessions, manage audit logs, govern third party agents like Claude and Codex, and restrict MCP tools. That makes GitHub a natural place to absorb agent management for teams already centered on pull requests and repositories.
  • OpenAI and Anthropic are no longer just model vendors. OpenAI positions Codex as a cloud software engineering agent that connects to GitHub, fixes bugs, generates tests, and can turn work into pull requests. Anthropic packages Claude Code with Team and Enterprise plans and added admin controls, which means orchestration can be sold inside the model subscription itself.
  • AWS is expanding from raw infrastructure into a full agent runtime. Bedrock AgentCore adds permissions, observability, memory, and secure action execution across tools and data, and it works with open source frameworks as well as AWS services. For enterprises standardizing on AWS, that narrows the case for paying a separate vendor just to run and govern agents.

The market is heading toward bundled agent stacks where the winning layer owns an existing distribution surface, model seat, repository, or cloud contract. Factory’s path forward is to become the best system for hard engineering work that generic bundles still handle poorly, or to fit underneath those bundles as the specialized execution layer enterprises keep even after the control plane consolidates.
