Anthropic From Supplier to Control Plane

Anthropic is buying distribution faster than it can own it. Selling through Snowflake, Deloitte, and PwC gets Claude into existing enterprise buying channels, but those partners control the customer workflow, the implementation budget, and often the model choice, which means Anthropic can win usage without fully owning the account. • Snowflake is not just a reseller, it is an operating layer where enterprises already store data and run analytics. The $200M partnership put Claude into Cortex AI and paired it with joint go to market, but Snowflake can also present other models inside the same governed workflow, which weakens model level lock in.2 7
• Deloitte and PwC make Claude easier to buy because they turn a base model into concrete work, like internal copilots, industry templates, and managed rollouts. But that services layer is also where substitution happens. The same firm can recommend Claude for one project, then route another client to a rival model or its own packaged workflow.3 4 5 8 9
• This dynamic is already visible in the developer channel. Anthropic partners like Cursor and JetBrains can switch default models when another lab has a stronger release, even while end users still buy lots of Claude through bring your own key usage. Distribution broadens reach, but it also makes demand more contestable.6

The next phase is a fight to move from being a model supplier to being part of the control plane for enterprise AI. The labs that pair strong models with durable channels, partner certification, and tighter workflow integration will capture more of the spend, while pure model advantage alone will become harder to hold for long.1 5 7
