Chainalysis pivots to prevention tools
Chainalysis
These three deals show Chainalysis moving from a company that mainly helped investigate crypto crime after the fact into one that tries to stop losses before money leaves the platform. Kryptos helps banks and exchanges decide which crypto businesses are safe to touch, Hexagate watches blockchains and smart contracts for live attack signals, and Alterya flags scam infrastructure across crypto and fiat payment flows. Together they turn Chainalysis into a broader risk stack for exchanges, banks, and onchain apps.1 2 3 4 5 6
- The timing was compressed. Chainalysis said on October 7, 2025 that it had acquired three businesses in the prior eight months. Two were announced publicly, Hexagate on December 18, 2024 and Alterya on January 13, 2025. Kryptos was not one of those acquisitions, it was launched by Chainalysis in 2019 as an in house product.3 4 5 6
- Each product covers a different moment in the customer workflow. A bank compliance team can use Kryptos to screen an exchange before onboarding it. An exchange can use Alterya to stop a user from sending funds to a scam account. A protocol or chain can use Hexagate to catch exploit patterns and automate a response before funds are drained.1 2 4 5 6
- The bigger implication is commercial, not just technical. Chainalysis already sold investigation and AML tools like Reactor and KYT. Adding prevention products gives it more seats inside the same customer, from fraud ops teams to security teams, which can raise contract size and make the platform harder to replace.1 2 5 6
Going forward, Chainalysis is likely to keep building around real time decisioning. The winning crypto risk vendor will not just trace stolen money later, it will help institutions decide who to onboard, what to block, and when to intervene across fiat rails, exchanges, wallets, and smart contracts in the moment.1 2 4 5 6
