This is why embedded lending works best when software already runs the merchant’s day to day business. A salon, restaurant, or home services platform already sees bookings, invoices, payments, and repeat usage, so it can surface a pre approved offer inside the same screen where the owner manages cash coming in. That lowers customer acquisition cost for Pipe, improves underwriting quality, and makes financing feel like part of the core product instead of a separate loan search.

  • Vertical SaaS is especially strong because the platform is not just a payment button. Housecall Pro positions itself as the operating platform for home service pros, and Pipe uses that position to embed capital directly into the product. That means the merchant already trusts the interface and returns to it every day.
  • The economics are better than direct to SMB lending. Pipe found its old self serve model expensive to acquire and weaker on risk selection, while partner channels like Boulevard, Priority, and Housecall Pro delivered faster scale because platform data let Pipe generate tailored offers before merchants even applied.
  • This has become a real platform race. Parafin sells the same core promise to vertical software companies, handling underwriting, compliance, servicing, and revenue sharing for embedded capital. Stripe also now offers Capital for platforms, but ties eligibility mainly to Stripe payment activity inside Connect, which is narrower than Pipe’s payment agnostic pitch.

The next step is a fuller financial stack inside industry software. Once capital is embedded, cards, spend controls, and bill pay can follow, giving the platform a much more complete picture of cash in and cash out. That pushes vertical SaaS closer to becoming the financial control center for small business, and gives providers like Pipe more products to attach through one integration.
