Speechmatics on-device Premiere integration

Diving deeper into

Speechmatics

Company Report
Adobe has partnered with Speechmatics since 2021, and an updated on-device model introduced in April 2026 extended that relationship

The Adobe relationship shows that Speechmatics is not just selling a transcription API, it is selling a speech engine that can live inside another companys product and still perform on an ordinary laptop. That matters because embedded distribution puts Speechmatics in front of millions of editors inside Premiere, and the April 21, 2026 on device update strengthened that position with local macOS and Windows transcription for sensitive footage that cannot leave the machine.1 2 3 4

  • The partnership goes back to 2021, when Adobe added speech to text in Premiere. Speechmatics says access to on device models was a key reason Adobe chose it, which makes the 2026 update less like a feature refresh and more like a renewal of a hard to replace capability.1 2
  • For an editor, the product workflow is concrete. Audio is transcribed inside Premiere on the local computer, then the transcript is used for search, captions, and text based editing without sending unreleased interviews, film dailies, or client footage to an outside cloud service.3 4
  • This also shows the tradeoff in Speechmatics business model. Embedded wins can be sticky and high volume, but the distribution belongs to the platform owner. That dependence is visible in the Adobe example, where user access comes through Premiere rather than a Speechmatics controlled app or workspace.4 5

Going forward, the on device path should become a bigger wedge for speech vendors in media, legal, and regulated workflows. If Speechmatics keeps matching cloud level accuracy locally, it can win more OEM style deals where privacy, offline use, and native product integration matter more than owning the customer relationship.1 3 4
