Lambda customers describe signing 18 month plus contracts for fixed H100 or B200 clusters with InfiniBand, because large training jobs need identical GPUs available 24/7 and scheduled ahead of time. That is closer to leasing a private machine room than spinning up cloud instances.

Going forward, the market is likely to polarize further. The biggest contracts will keep flowing toward providers that can lock down long dated GPU supply and pass enterprise procurement, while developer share will concentrate around platforms that make inference and fine tuning feel instant, cheap, and easy. RunPod’s path is to turn per second billing plus community distribution into a broader application platform, not just a cheaper GPU host.
