Buying Augmedix turned clinical documentation from a feature that helps sell Commure software into a revenue line that already existed at scale. Augmedix was doing about $45M of revenue in 2023, selling ambient note taking and documentation workflows to large health systems, so Commure did not need to build that business from zero. It added a service heavy workflow product that sits close to the clinician and creates new cross sell paths into the same hospital accounts.1 2 3 4

  • Augmedix made money by handling charting work around patient visits. In its filings, Augmedix says some revenue was tied to monthly patient facing clinic hours at a set hourly rate, or a fixed monthly price, which is a different monetization model from Commure's core software and RCM products.2 5
  • The asset came with real enterprise distribution. Before the deal, Augmedix said it served more than 20 health systems, generated roughly $48M ARR as of September 30, 2023, and produced more than 60,000 notes per week. That gives Commure documentation revenue plus a wedge into frontline clinician workflow.6 2
  • This also fits the shape of the AI scribe market. Newer players like Abridge, Ambience, Suki, and Freed are all chasing documentation spend, but with different motions. Augmedix was an earlier enterprise incumbent, and Commure bought it for about $139M, or roughly 3x 2023 revenue, which is much cheaper than building hospital scale distribution from scratch.3 4 7

The next step is turning documentation into the front door for a broader operating system. Once Commure is capturing the doctor patient conversation and generating the note, it can attach coding, billing, orders, patient follow up, and other back office workflows, which should make the Augmedix revenue stream a starting point for larger account expansion over time.1 4 8
