giving Kalshi a new monetization surface that complements its existing prediction market infrastructure

Perpetual futures turn Kalshi from a market that mostly waits for headlines and game results into a trading venue that can earn from round the clock activity. Event contracts spike around elections, March Madness, and the World Cup. Crypto perps give Kalshi a product traders can open, close, and roll continuously on the same exchange rails, user accounts, and liquidity operations it already built for prediction markets.1 2 3 4

  • Kalshi already monetizes event contracts at roughly a 1% effective take rate, while using rebates to keep market makers active. In June 2026 it also had about $7B in monthly crypto perp volume that was still priced at zero fees, which shows the appeal of the product even before direct monetization was switched on.1 2 3
  • Perps solve a different usage pattern from prediction markets. A sports or election contract ends when the event ends. A BTC or ETH perp stays live all day, so active traders can keep positions on without waiting for a new market to list. That makes revenue less dependent on one off news cycles.1 4
  • The move also narrows the gap with crypto native rivals. Polymarket grew on crypto rails and low fees, while Kalshi built regulated U.S. market plumbing and higher take rates. Adding crypto perps lets Kalshi chase the highest volume derivative format in crypto without abandoning the regulated exchange model that differentiates it.1 3 4

The next step is straightforward. If Kalshi can convert perp volume into paid volume without hurting liquidity, it becomes less of a seasonal prediction app and more of a full time retail derivatives exchange. That would make its business steadier, deepen trader retention, and put more pressure on both sportsbooks and crypto exchanges competing for the same speculative flow.1 3 4
