Figma doubles platform surface area

These additions effectively double the surface area of the platform

Figma is trying to turn a design tool into a company wide creative operating system. The new products matter because each one pulls a different non designer into the same browser tab. Make gives PMs and engineers a fast way to turn a mockup into working code, Sites lets marketing publish pages without re building them elsewhere, and Buzz and Draw move brand and illustration work into the same workspace that already holds product design files.1 2 3 4 5

  • This follows a long running expansion play. Earlier research showed Figma winning by making files live in one shared browser workspace, then using collaboration and viewer to editor conversion to spread from designers to adjacent teams. The new tools push that same motion into more daily workflows.1 2
  • The closest comparable is Canva, which broadened from simple graphics into presentations, video, print, and enterprise brand workflows. The lesson is that wider use cases raise organization penetration because more employees can create, review, and ship work inside one product.3 6
  • The acquisitions fill in missing steps between mockup and production. Payload adds headless CMS infrastructure for developers, while Modyfi and Weavy add motion, image, video, and effects tooling. That makes Figma less of a handoff tool and more of a place where work gets finished.4 5

The next phase is selling this wider bundle as enterprise infrastructure, not just designer software. If Figma can turn scattered design, marketing, web publishing, and prototype work into one governed system with SSO, permissions, and bulk contracts, expansion inside large accounts should come from more teams using Figma every week, not just more designers buying seats.1 3 6
