This matters because AI-native education products can turn one lesson engine into many local versions, which makes international growth look more like model tuning than rebuilding a publisher workflow. In practice, that means the same core lesson can be rendered with synthetic voice, translated prompts, and localized examples, instead of recording new audio, rewriting every script, and manually stitching together a separate course for each market.

  • Traditional learning platforms expand language by translating a fixed library of videos, quizzes, and UI screens. Khan Academy built broad multilingual distribution over years, and its AI tutor now supports many languages on top of that library. Oboe starts closer to the tutor layer, so language rollout can happen faster because less content is hard coded.
  • Duolingo shows the old model at scale. It launched 148 new language courses using generative AI, but those courses still sit inside a structured course catalog with explicit language pairs and lesson paths.
