Stan's Flat Pricing Caps Retention

Diving deeper into

Stan

Company Report
Without a meaningful upsell or usage-based component, net dollar retention is capped regardless of how much creators grow their businesses on the platform.

Stan’s flat subscription pricing means creator success does not automatically turn into Stan revenue. A coach who goes from selling a few $9 PDFs to a six figure mix of downloads, courses, and calls still pays the same $29 per month, so account growth does not create expansion revenue to offset churn. That makes retention math depend mostly on keeping creators subscribed and adding new ones, not on existing creators selling more.1 2 3

  • Stan is intentionally simple and mass market. Its core users are creators selling low priced digital downloads, meetings, and lightweight courses, with over 50% of creator income on the platform coming from digital downloads priced roughly $4 to $30. Those products can grow creator GMV fast without increasing Stan’s take.2 3
  • The ceiling shows up in the numbers. Stan reached $14.7M ARR at the end of 2023, $28.3M in 2024, and $35M in 2025, while growth slowed from 765% to 93% to 24%. At the same time, Stan has described monthly gross churn around 13%, which means new acquisition eventually has to work harder just to hold the base flat.1 2 4
  • Other creator platforms have built ways to rise with customer success. Whop takes 3% on direct sales and 30% on sales sourced through its marketplace, so more buyer activity raises Whop revenue automatically. ConvertKit and Beehiiv have added ads, recommendations, and network products that create new spend paths beyond the base subscription.4 5

The next phase is about adding revenue that scales with creator outcomes. Stanley is the first clear move in that direction, because it gives Stan a second product to bundle and a reason to charge more as creators try to grow audience and sales. If Stan keeps layering on paid tools around distribution and monetization, it can turn a capped SaaS plan into a broader creator stack with real expansion.1 5
