The strategic endgame is that 1Password can move from storing credentials to becoming the control layer that decides how work accounts get accessed. Universal Sign On starts as a memory layer for the messy reality outside formal SSO, where employees use Google login, Okta, email codes, and shared passwords across many unmanaged apps. If 1Password becomes the place that brokers those sign ins, the underlying identity provider matters less and 1Password captures more of the workflow and budget.

The next step is a broader identity layer where 1Password governs every sign in, even for apps outside the official IdP and even on employee owned devices.
