Anthropic chooses enterprise over hardware
Hark
Anthropic is trying to become the control plane for AI work inside existing software, not the company that sells a new device. Its computer use product is exposed through APIs and cloud partners, so a bank, BPO, or software vendor can drop Claude into a browser based task, a spreadsheet workflow, or an internal tool without changing employee hardware. That makes distribution look like enterprise software procurement and developer adoption, not consumer retail.
-
Computer use launched through the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud Vertex AI, with developers directing Claude to read screens, move a cursor, click, and type. That packaging is built for embedding inside existing systems and controlled workflows.
-
The Vercept acquisition in February 2026 reinforced that path. Anthropic bought more perception and interaction talent to improve computer use, while saying Vercept would wind down its external product and join Anthropic, which points to model and platform depth over a standalone hardware surface.
-
This fits Anthropic's broader revenue engine. The company profile describes Anthropic as an API and chatbot for developers and businesses, and internal research has long framed Anthropic against OpenAI as the more enterprise weighted player while OpenAI pushes harder on consumer distribution.
From here, the advantage will come from making computer use safe, reliable, and easy to buy through the channels enterprises already trust. If that holds, Anthropic can spread through thousands of partner products and internal deployments at once, while hardware first rivals must win each user one device at a time.
