Huel shifts into GLP-1 retail channel
Huel
The important shift is that Huel is no longer only being bought as a meal replacement brand, it is being merchandised as a problem solving food for GLP-1 users. That changes where shoppers discover it. Instead of starting with Huel ads or the complete nutrition aisle, a customer can now find Huel inside Ocado’s weight management flow beside portion controlled meals and protein heavy foods, which broadens Huel’s entry point beyond its original use case.1 2 3 4
- Ocado built a dedicated weight management aisle for Wegovy and Mounjaro users, based on research showing 22% of UK adults had considered weight loss injections, rising to 37% among ages 25 to 34, and estimated 2.5 million UK users by July 2025. That makes GLP-1 a retailer defined shopping mission, not just a brand message from Huel.1
- Huel already had the product shape for this channel. Its Black Edition RTD sits at the intersection of high protein, lower calorie, and easy consumption when appetite is suppressed. In practice, that puts Huel into competition with prepared diet meals, yogurts, bars, and functional snacks, not only with legacy shake brands like Soylent or Ensure.1 2 4
- This matters more because Huel has already moved far beyond DTC. It sells through 25,000 plus retail locations globally, including Target and GNC, and supermarket sales are already 33% of its $140M UK revenue. A new retailer led use case can scale quickly because the shelf and distribution network already exist.2 3 5
Going forward, GLP-1 will likely pull Huel further into mainstream functional food. As retailers create more shelves, filters, and meal plans for reduced appetite shoppers, Huel can win not by persuading people to replace every meal, but by becoming the default convenient protein meal inside a much larger weight management aisle.1 4 5
