Agentic commerce splits into layers
Mirakl
The important shift is that agentic commerce is breaking into separate pipes, where one vendor helps products get understood by AI, another sells sponsored placement inside the AI interface, and another handles checkout and money movement. Mirakl is trying to bundle those jobs into one system through Nexus and its Stripe partnership, but newer point tools can slip into a merchant's stack one layer at a time with much lower adoption friction.1 2 3 4 5
- Discovery and enrichment is the catalog formatting layer. Feedonomics ACE packages product attributes, inventory, and taxonomy into channel specific exports for AI surfaces like ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, PayPal, Stripe, and Amazon. That means a merchant can improve AI discoverability without replacing its marketplace core.3 4
- Monetization is becoming its own product surface. Topsort Sponsored Prompts lets a marketplace sell sponsored product placement inside chatbot style shopping prompts, with campaigns created in Topsort's UI around specific prompts and products. That is a narrower job than Mirakl's full marketplace stack, but easier to adopt and test.5 6
- Payments remains separate because ad delivery, catalog distribution, and transaction settlement have different buyers and product requirements. Mirakl's February 2026 update tied Nexus to a December 2025 Stripe partnership, showing that even Mirakl is relying on a specialist for the money layer while it builds the orchestration layer above it.1 2
The next phase is likely a stack market, not a winner take all market. Merchants will first buy the layer that fixes the most obvious bottleneck, better AI visibility, better sponsored yield, or smoother checkout, and only later consolidate vendors. Mirakl's advantage will depend on proving that one integrated control plane beats three best of breed tools wired together.1 2 3 5
