Encord's Platform and Managed Services
Encord
This split shows Encord is trying to win both kinds of AI customer, teams that already have ML ops talent and just need software, and teams that need someone to run the messy real world work for them. The platform covers data management, annotation, curation, and model evaluation inside the customer’s own cloud, while the managed business adds human annotators, in field operators, teleoperation facilities, and even physical data collection for robotics workloads.1 2 3 4
- The software product is built for customers that want control. Encord positions it as API and SDK first, with no data migration, support for cloud storage connections, multimodal search, and tools to compare model outputs and find failure cases that need new labels or better data.1 3 4
- The managed business is much more than outsourced labeling. Encord says it can run dedicated collection facilities, operate customer hardware, gather teleoperation and robot demonstration data, and return training ready datasets. That makes it closer to an external data operations team than a pure SaaS vendor.1 5 6
- This two lane model mirrors a proven pattern in AI data infrastructure. Scale also sells self serve data tooling and managed data services. In practice, services help land complex accounts early, then software becomes the system of record that customers use every day to review, curate, and improve model performance.2 7 8
The next step is deeper bundling, where managed collection and annotation feed directly into Encord’s software loop for curation, evaluation, and retraining. If physical AI keeps moving from lab demos to deployment, vendors that own both the workflow software and the labor heavy data pipeline should capture a larger share of customer spend.1 4 5 6 8
