Ericsson and Nokia Bundle Location

Diving deeper into

Company Report
Both incumbents can discount location within broader infrastructure deals, pressuring standalone vendors on price and procurement convenience.

Location is becoming a feature inside larger network and edge deals, not a product that always wins its own budget line. Ericsson can turn on positioning inside the mobile network it already sells to carriers, and Nokia can fold tracking into private wireless and edge packages for factories, ports, and warehouses. That makes the buying process shorter, lowers apparent pricing, and forces specialists like ZaiNar to win on use cases where accuracy or resilience matters enough to justify a separate vendor.1 2 3 4 5

  • Ericsson is pushing the clearest commoditization path. Its January 21, 2026 launch put indoor and outdoor positioning into 5G Standalone, and its August 18, 2026 MediaTek demo showed decimeter level accuracy on a commercial network. For many asset tracking and geofencing jobs, that is good enough without extra middleware.1 2
  • Nokia sells location as one item inside a bigger industrial bundle. MX Industrial Edge runs on premises compute, DAC provides private wireless management, and Nokia explicitly offers indoor positioning alongside that stack. A plant operator can buy connectivity, devices, applications, and tracking in one procurement instead of stitching together separate vendors.3 4 5
  • This shifts the specialist playbook. Standalone vendors are least defensible where the job is simply finding people, forklifts, or containers inside a site. They are more defensible where customers need higher precision, operation in GPS denied environments, or timing and positioning that keep working when standard network based tools are not enough.6

The next phase of this market favors companies that sell location as part of a larger operating system for industrial sites. Specialists will still matter, but mostly in the hardest environments, where better accuracy, tougher reliability, and deeper workflow integration create enough operational value to overcome the convenience of the incumbent bundle.1 2 3 4 5 6
