Notion ties AI to workspace upgrades
Notion
Bundling AI into workspace wide plans turns Notion’s AI from a personal add on into a contract expansion lever. Instead of selling one writer or one analyst an extra seat, Notion uses AI to pull an entire team onto Business or Enterprise, where the buyer also gets private teamspaces, admin controls, connectors, and enterprise search. That raises ACV immediately and makes AI adoption look like broader workspace standardization, not a narrow feature purchase.1 2 3 4 5
- The packaging change was explicit in May 2025. Notion moved Enterprise Search, Research Mode, and AI Meeting Notes into Business and Enterprise plans, with official pricing framed as all in one AI rather than a separate per user AI add on. That means a team wanting AI access must upgrade the shared workspace plan, not just a few seats.3 4 5
- This follows the logic of horizontal work software. The winning product is often the one that becomes the shared place where tasks, docs, search, and workflows live together. ClickUp describes the same consolidation dynamic, and Notion’s AI bundle pushes in that direction by making search and meeting notes reasons to standardize the whole team on a higher tier.6 7 1
- Once the workspace is upgraded, Notion can add a second meter on top. In May 2026 it introduced Notion credits for Custom Agents at $10 per 1,000, shared across the workspace and auto pausing when exhausted. That gives Notion a seat based base layer, then a usage layer tied to work done, not headcount alone.2 8 9
The direction is toward a hybrid model where the team pays first to bring all workers onto the AI enabled workspace, then pays again as agents do more work. That should keep pushing Notion upmarket, deepen consolidation around its workspace, and make future growth come from both bigger contracts and higher usage inside each account.1 2 8 10
