USDT versus USDC on Tron
Stablecoins and fintech infrastructure
The real point is that in many cross border corridors, the winning stablecoin is the one with the easiest local entry and exit, not the one with the cleanest brand. For a Latin American business trying to protect cash and then pay from the U.S., holding dollars inside a bank account can be harder than holding a dollar token in a wallet. On Tron, that has historically meant USDT first, because counterparties, exchanges, and off ramp desks are already set up for it, while USDC has been stronger where regulated corporate workflows matter more.

For payments infrastructure, coin choice is mostly a liquidity decision. The key question is whether a provider can take in $1 million or $10 million of a token, sell it quickly, and deliver fiat on the other side. That is why large payment flows concentrate in a few coins and a few chains.

USDT built especially strong distribution in emerging markets and on Tron, where low fees and dense exchange support made it practical for remittances, treasury storage, and supplier payments. In Colombia and similar markets, businesses often want to save, send, and receive in the same asset they already get paid in, which reinforces USDT liquidity.

USDC has been the preferred choice for some business users because of transparency and regulatory posture. Kapital chose USDC for companies in Latin America, and Layer2 said it preferred USDC where stability, demand, and liquidity were strongest. But Circle discontinued USDC support on Tron in February 2024, which makes USDC on Tron a shrinking edge case rather than the default route.
Going forward, this market keeps splitting in two. USDT on Tron remains the practical dollar rail for high frequency cross border movement in many emerging markets, while USDC is better positioned where regulated U.S. and enterprise workflows matter most. The next wave of infrastructure winners will be the companies that hide that complexity and route each payment through whichever coin and chain has the best off ramp at that moment.
