Forge turns EasyPost into wholesale distribution

A single Forge integration can bring hundreds or thousands of downstream merchants

Forge turns EasyPost from a tool that sells one merchant at a time into a wholesale distribution layer for shipping. When a marketplace, ERP, or vertical SaaS platform plugs Forge into its product, shipping appears inside the workflow merchants already use for orders, returns, or fulfillment, so EasyPost can reach an entire customer base through one technical sale instead of thousands of separate go to market motions.

  • This works because commerce software is fragmented. Many merchants sell across Shopify, marketplaces, and other systems, then bolt on specialized tools for fulfillment, inventory, and returns. Infrastructure vendors that sit behind those software layers gain leverage because one platform partner can aggregate a long tail of merchants.
  • The money flow is stronger than simple API usage. EasyPost already provides labels, tracking, address verification, and insurance. With FlexRate, the platform partner can add margin on carrier rates, turning shipping from a pass through cost into software revenue, which gives the partner a reason to push adoption across its merchant base.
  • The closest analogue is how fulfillment platforms became embedded operating layers for commerce ecosystems. ShipBob grew by becoming the fulfillment arm behind larger commerce channels and integrations, and now monetizes across storage, pick and pack, and shipping. Forge is the lighter weight version of that strategy, focused on shipping infrastructure rather than warehouses.

The next step is deeper embedding, where shipping is bundled with returns, rate markups, analytics, and financing inside partner software. As more commerce platforms look for extra revenue lines and tighter merchant retention, the shipping API with the best partner economics and easiest implementation will win distribution faster than the one with the biggest direct sales team.
