Memory Platforms as Upstream Context

This points to a power shift in AI assistants, where the product that owns durable memory can supply the raw context while someone else owns the chat box. Wordware is trying to be the place where work gets delegated, reviewed, and completed across email, Slack, files, and projects. Limitless and Granola start one layer lower. They capture conversations, turn them into searchable memory, and increasingly feed that memory into other assistants and workflows.

Limitless is the clearest example of upstream context infrastructure. Its developer docs explicitly offer MCP access for Claude and ChatGPT for Workspace, so a user can keep memory in Limitless and call on that memory from another assistant. That makes Limitless less like a standalone bot and more like a memory API with a wearable front end.

Wordware is aiming higher in the stack. Sauna is built as a standalone mission control app with persistent memory, 3,000 connections, a file system, and long running background agents that watch inboxes, meetings, and tools, then queue work for review. If users instead treat a separate memory product as the source of truth, Wordware risks becoming just one more execution layer on top.

Granola shows how a narrow note taking wedge can widen into organizational memory. It started with local meeting capture and post call note enhancement, then added chat across meetings, reusable prompts, sharing, Notion export, and Zapier connections to 8,000 plus apps. That is the same pattern, solve one workflow first, then become the system other tools pull context from.
The next battle is over who becomes the main branch of truth for knowledge work. If memory first products keep expanding from capture into retrieval, automation, and assistant connectivity, the winning product may be the one that quietly owns the context layer beneath many assistants, not the one with the most visible interface.
