Meta merges glasses and messaging memory
Instinct
Meta is dangerous here because it already owns the pipes where relationship data is created, not just a gadget that records it. Limitless gives Meta ambient capture, but the bigger advantage is that Meta can merge what the glasses see and hear with message history, social identity, and AI memory across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. That is much closer to a default personal memory layer than a standalone app like Instinct can build on its own.

Limitless was first a desktop and meeting memory product, then a pendant. After the December 2025 acquisition, Meta shut down new hardware sales and moved the team into Reality Labs, which shows the goal was not a separate device business, but folding memory capture into existing Meta wearables and apps.

Meta had already started adding memory to Meta AI in 1 to 1 chats on WhatsApp and Messenger, and expanded personalization across Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. That means Limitless slots into an existing memory stack, where the system can connect what was said in chats with what was seen or heard through glasses.

The hardware context matters because smart glasses have become the winning form factor for ambient capture. Earlier pendant products from Humane, Friend, and Limitless struggled as standalone devices, while Ray-Ban Meta scaled through Meta distribution, software, and the EssilorLuxottica channel. That gives Meta far more surface area than Instinct, or Rabbit style agents that mainly act through software interfaces.
The next step is a memory product that feels less like a note taking app and more like an always available layer across glasses, chat, and voice. If Meta keeps tying capture, identity, and messaging together, the center of gravity will shift from standalone memory assistants toward platforms that already own daily communication and attention.
