Marketplace distribution turns PlanetScale from a database vendor into something enterprise buyers can purchase inside an existing cloud budget and approval path. That matters because many large companies already commit spend to AWS or Google Cloud, so buying PlanetScale through those channels can count toward those commitments, land on the same invoice, and bring cloud sales reps into the deal. Combined with BYOC and private networking, that makes PlanetScale look much closer to an enterprise infrastructure purchase than a standalone developer tool.

  • AWS is the clearest example of co sell leverage. PlanetScale has been in AWS Marketplace since June 2022 and joined AWS ISV Accelerate in June 2023, which gives it a formal route to work with AWS field sellers on joint deals.
  • The procurement benefit is mechanical. Google says Marketplace purchases are added to the customer’s existing Google Cloud invoice, which removes a separate vendor setup and helps software purchases fit into pre approved cloud spending workflows.
  • PlanetScale pairs that easier buying motion with enterprise deployment controls. Its AWS enterprise options include isolated EC2 instances, PrivateLink or VPC peering, and deployment across any AWS Region with three Availability Zones, which maps well to security and compliance reviews in healthcare and financial services.

This points toward PlanetScale selling more often through infrastructure and platform teams, not just app developers. As cloud marketplaces become a standard procurement lane for software, the vendors that pair developer friendly products with private deployment, billing alignment, and hyperscaler co selling will have the clearest path into regulated and large enterprise accounts.
