Company Report
Gong re-accelerated revenue growth in 2024 after a slowdown in 2022 and 2023 related to sales teams downsizing across the industry

Gong’s rebound shows that the business is no longer riding simple seat growth, it is selling a denser revenue stack into each customer. When sales org layoffs cut into the number of reps using the product in 2022 and 2023, Gong’s per seat model lost its easiest expansion lever. Growth picked back up in 2024 as Gong used its call data as raw material for more products, including Forecast, Engage, and the Gong Data Engine, which lifted attach rate and ACV even before seat counts fully recovered.1 2 3

  • The numbers show both the slowdown and the turn. Gong’s ARR grew from $200M in 2022 to $232M in 2023, then to $298M in 2024, taking growth from about 16% in 2023 back up to about 28% in 2024. That pattern fits a company that found a new upsell motion after a headcount shock.1 4
  • The headwind was structural. Gong monetized heavily through rep seats and historically benefited when customers hired more sellers. In 2023, sales teams across software cut headcount by roughly 15% to 25%, which hurt seat expansion and pulled down net dollar retention that had previously run near 140%.1
  • Compared with Outreach and Apollo, Gong’s recovery came from moving faster toward a multi product system of record. Outreach reached $250M ARR in 2023 with 11% growth, while Apollo hit $96M ARR with 100% growth by combining lead data and workflow in a self serve model. Gong’s answer was not cheaper seats, but making recorded calls power more workflows inside the same account.2 5 6

The next phase is less about recording calls and more about owning the data layer that turns every sales conversation into forecasts, coaching, CRM updates, and automated outreach. If Gong keeps raising product attach inside its 4,500 customer base, growth should become less tied to how many reps a customer hires and more tied to how much revenue work Gong can absorb.1 2 3
