Quarries are the fastest way for Gravis to turn autonomy from a construction demo into an always on production tool. A quarry has fixed haul roads, repeated loading cycles, and fewer moving variables than a city jobsite, so the same excavator can run the same digging and loading pattern for long stretches. That makes uptime, safety, and labor savings easier to prove, which is why Holcim moved from pilot work at Lee Moor to an investment and commercialization agreement.

The Holcim relationship is more than financing. Holcim said its investment was meant to extend Gravis from construction into quarry use after a successful UK pilot, and its 2025 annual report ties that pilot at Lee Moor to a follow on MoU with Gravis and Hyundai for excavators and wheel loaders.

This market is being pre educated by others. Epiroc announced in June 2026 that it was extending its autonomous haulage system into quarries, which matters because buyers no longer need to be convinced that autonomy belongs only in giant mines. The category is becoming legible to aggregates operators.

The product fit is concrete. Gravis retrofits standard excavators with LiDAR, cameras, and control software, so a quarry customer can automate loading and material handling on existing fleets instead of waiting for a fully new machine platform. That is especially useful for rental led channels and mixed fleets.
The next step is a wedge from autonomous excavation into broader quarry workflows. If Gravis keeps proving repeatable loading in aggregates, the company can expand from one machine task to multi machine quarry operations, and sell autonomy as daily production infrastructure rather than a specialty construction feature.
