ERCOT Enables Base Power Scale

Diving deeper into

Base Power

Company Report
Texas alone provides substantial near-term runway.

Texas is large enough that Base does not need national expansion to prove the model. At 7,000 homes by December 2025, the company had barely touched ERCOT’s addressable base of roughly 8 million single family homes in deregulated territory, while Texas load growth is rising fast enough that batteries are becoming grid capacity, not just backup boxes. That gives Base room to add customers and sell the same fleet into multiple revenue streams inside one market.1 2 3 4

  • The real advantage in Texas is market structure. ERCOT lets Base bundle a home battery with a retail electricity plan, then aggregate thousands of batteries and discharge them into the wholesale market when prices spike. That means each new home adds a consumer subscription, a power customer, and a dispatchable grid asset at the same time.1 5
  • Austin Energy shows how much more value can be layered onto the same installed base. Its May 19, 2026 agreement with Base covers 40 MW of residential battery capacity, which Austin Energy can dispatch during peak demand and price volatility, while its 2035 plan targets 125 MW of battery storage by the end of 2027 if economical.2 6 7
  • Texas demand growth makes this more urgent, not less. ERCOT said in February 2025 that reserve margins were being pressured by strong economic growth and large new loads including data centers, oil and gas, and crypto. In practice, that makes a distributed battery fleet more valuable because it can be installed at homes without waiting for new power plants or big transmission upgrades.4 5

The next step is deeper density, not just broader geography. If Base keeps filling ERCOT neighborhoods and utility territories first, it can turn local battery clusters into repeatable capacity contracts, making Texas both its customer acquisition engine and its proving ground for expansion into other retail choice markets.1 2 3 6
