the Onfido acquisition gave Entrust a well-known IDV brand that it can bundle into a broader enterprise security suite

Entrust turned identity verification from a point product into a line item inside a much larger security budget. Onfido gives Entrust a front door product that fraud teams and onboarding teams already know, while Entrust brings the procurement muscle around IAM, MFA, digital signing, and adaptive authentication. That matters in enterprise deals where the winner is often the vendor that can solve onboarding, login, and transaction approval in one purchase cycle.

  • Entrust completed the Onfido acquisition on April 9, 2024, and then explicitly positioned the combined offer around identity centric security. In plain terms, that means using Onfido for document and biometric checks at signup, then extending into ongoing login and transaction controls with Entrust products.
  • Entrust already sells the surrounding stack, including IAM, SSO, MFA, ID proofing, credential issuance, fraud detection, adaptive risk based authentication, and digital signing. That lets a CIO buy identity verification from the same vendor that manages employee access, customer login, and high value approvals.
  • This is a different competitive motion from Veriff. Veriff wins when a buyer runs a bakeoff on verification accuracy and fraud detection. Entrust can win when the buyer is standardizing vendors, because Onfido becomes one module inside a broader security program rather than a standalone tool that must justify itself alone.

The next step is deeper packaging. As Entrust folds Onfido more tightly into IAM and transaction security, more enterprise buyers will treat identity verification as part of core identity infrastructure. That pushes the market toward suites on one side and best of breed specialists on the other, which raises the premium on Veriff proving measurable fraud lift, faster conversion, and easier deployment.
