This market behaves much more like wholesale compute than enterprise software, which means price, capacity, and contract terms matter more than brand. In the robotics interview, the team says switching takes only a day or two because they install their own stack on raw machines and mainly care about cheaper prices and reliable access. That fits a broader pattern where independent GPU clouds often look interchangeable unless a provider adds reserved capacity, better networking, or workflow tooling.

  • The strongest evidence for fungibility is operational, not rhetorical. This robotics team chose Voltage Park on price and reliability, says switching costs are low, and sees little practical difference across providers once the cluster is up and their own software is installed.
  • Lambda is not identical in every segment. A larger training customer uses Lambda for reserved multi GPU clusters with InfiniBand, custom Kubernetes and storage setups, and says those engineering accommodations create some stickiness even though quotes from Lambda and CoreWeave were extremely comparable and the final decision still came down to price.
  • The way out of pure commodity pricing is to move up one layer. Voltage Park has added managed Kubernetes and reserve contracts, while Lambda has expanded from single node instances into 1-Click Clusters and broader training infrastructure. Those features matter because they save setup time, secure capacity, and make customers rebuild workflows around one provider.

Over time, the winning GPU clouds are likely to be the ones that turn raw H100 hours into a better operating environment for training and deployment. As clusters, schedulers, storage, and reservations become easier to use, loyalty will come less from the chip itself and more from who makes scarce compute easiest to secure and hardest to replace in an active workflow.
