Customer Data to Campaign Execution
$100M/year Segment for marketers
The strategic shift is that customer data systems are turning into execution systems, because once audience logic, message generation, and send orchestration live on the same data layer, the winning product is the one that can go from raw events to a live campaign fastest. Hightouch moved from warehouse sync into no code audience building, AI decisioning, AI ad creation, and lifecycle campaign launch. Klaviyo and Braze are moving the other way, adding CDP and AI tooling inside their engagement suites.
-
Klaviyo originally won by replacing spreadsheet work. Instead of exporting CSVs and doing VLOOKUPs, marketers could build segments inside the product, see audience size quickly, and launch targeted flows like abandoned cart or win back emails. That same audience building workflow is now being rebuilt on top of warehouses by Hightouch and inside enterprise suites by Braze.
-
The CDP layer is no longer just plumbing. Earlier customer data tools mainly routed events between apps. Now vendors are using that layer to decide who to target, what to show, when to send, and where to deliver it. Hightouch AI Decisioning, Ad Studio, and Lifecycle Studio make the warehouse the control center for both creative production and campaign execution.
-
The competitive line is shifting from closed app suites versus open data infrastructure to bundle versus federation. Customer.io framed standalone CDPs as valuable when they can pull from warehouses and push to many downstream tools. Hightouch follows that open model. Klaviyo and Braze instead use tighter integration to keep more of the campaign workflow inside their own products.
From here, marketing software will compress into fewer, broader systems that own both the customer context and the action layer. Warehouses will keep moving up into marketer workflows, while engagement platforms keep moving down into data and AI orchestration. The durable winners will be the products that let a marketer move from live customer behavior to a personalized campaign, creative included, without handing work across multiple tools.
