Self hosting turns Inngest from a developer convenience tool into infrastructure that security teams can actually approve. The important shift is not just where the software runs, but that teams can keep workflow state, retries, and event history inside their own network while still giving application engineers the same function based workflow model. That matters in healthcare, finance, and government, where sending execution metadata to a multi tenant cloud can block a purchase outright.

  • Inngest made the initial install unusually light. The self hosted server runs from the CLI as a single binary, starts with SQLite and embedded Redis by default, and can move to Postgres for persistent storage.
