BNB Powers Binance User Lock-in
Binance
The key advantage is that Binance turns one customer decision, holding BNB, into a reason to stay across trading, onchain activity, and borrowing. A user who keeps BNB for fee discounts on spot and futures can also use the same asset to pay gas on BNB Chain, qualify for token distributions, and post collateral in lending products. That makes leaving Binance feel like giving up a bundle of linked benefits, not just switching exchanges.1 2 3 4 5
- On the exchange side, BNB directly lowers the cost of staying active. Binance says paying fees with BNB can cut spot and margin trading fees by up to 25% and futures fees by up to 10%, and BNB holdings also count toward VIP benefits and token airdrop programs.1 2
- The same token then carries over into Binance’s onchain stack. Binance describes BNB as the native token of BNB Chain for transaction fees and governance, which means a trader who moves into Binance Wallet, DeFi apps, or Web3 earning products keeps using the same asset instead of starting over elsewhere.1 5 6
- Binance also ties BNB and Earn balances into credit products. Binance Loans supports borrowing against crypto collateral, including BNB, and Flexible Loans can use Simple Earn holdings as collateral, so assets parked for yield also become funding inventory for loans without being sold. That deepens engagement because one balance can serve trading, yield, and borrowing at once.3 4 7
The broader market is moving in the same direction, but Binance is pushing the closed loop further. Coinbase is building a similar flywheel around USDC and Base, using payments, wallet activity, and onchain settlement to reinforce exchange usage. Going forward, the strongest crypto platforms will look less like standalone exchanges and more like bundled financial operating systems built around one core asset and network.8 9 10
