ViaGen already sells expensive cloning and tissue banking services, Form Bio sells software for genome analysis, and government work pays for biobanking, sequencing, and conservation infrastructure that use the same underlying genetics and reproductive toolkit.

ViaGen gives Colossal a direct cash business with known pricing and an existing customer workflow. Owners pay $50,000 to clone a dog or cat, $85,000 to clone a horse, and about $1,600 to preserve cells for future use, which monetizes cloning know how long before any de-extinction outcome is commercialized.

Form Bio shows how an internal research bottleneck becomes a standalone product. The same compute, workflow, and bioinformatics tools used to compare genomes and manage complex experiments were spun out into software for drug and genetic medicine teams, which avoids building every downstream product inside one company.

Government and nonprofit channels let Colossal sell or deploy the same platform where normal customers do not exist. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partnership centers on biobanking, genomic planning, data practices, and training, while the Foundation pushes tools into field conservation projects that need grant style support instead of commercial pricing.
This model points toward Colossal becoming a biology holding company, where one core R&D engine keeps producing new tools, contracts, and spinouts. If that continues, the company will look less like a single moonshot species bet and more like a repeatable factory for turning conservation grade genomics and reproduction technology into multiple revenue streams.
