Google Acquires Wiz for $32B
Wiz
The strategic signal was Google paying a cloud era price for a security control point that sits across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. At $32B announced, and $29.5B after purchase price adjustments at close, Wiz was far larger than Google’s prior biggest deal, Motorola Mobility at about $12.4B to $12.5B. That gap shows how central cloud security became to Google’s enterprise push, especially after Wiz scaled from about $500M ARR in July 2024 to over $1B ARR during 2025.1 2 3 4 5
- Wiz was not bought as a small feature add on. Google announced the deal on March 18, 2025 as an all cash acquisition meant to strengthen Google Cloud in multicloud and AI driven security, then closed it on March 11, 2026 with Wiz folded into the Google Cloud segment.1 2 3
- The scale becomes clearer against Google’s history. Motorola Mobility had been the benchmark at roughly $12.4B to $12.5B. Wiz surpassed that by well over 2x, which makes this less comparable to tuck in buys like Nest and more like a platform level bet on owning a major enterprise category.2 4 5
- Wiz had the revenue base to support an unusually large outcome for security software. Internal tracking put Wiz at $500M ARR in July 2024, and later research tied the $32B takeout to Wiz crossing $1B ARR during 2025, implying Google was paying for a fast growing product already embedded in large cloud budgets.6 7
Going forward, this deal raises the bar for cloud security consolidation. Google now owns one of the few security products that many enterprises already run across rival clouds, which gives Google Cloud a stronger path into large accounts and puts pressure on Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, and Microsoft to answer with tighter platform bundles or larger M&A.1 2 6 7
