This pushes Maya from earning on cash storage and payments into earning on assets that stay invested. Inside the same app, a user can move pesos from wallet or savings into funds, see balances and performance, then redeem back into the wallet. That turns Maya into a distribution layer for third party fund products, where the economics come from ongoing management and trust fees charged by partner managers, not just one time payment activity.

  • The product is built to feel like a native money movement workflow, not a separate brokerage account. Maya Funds lets users subscribe, top up, and redeem funds using the Maya Wallet, and it uses a risk questionnaire to match products before investing. That lowers the friction of taking idle cash and putting it into UITFs and mutual funds.
  • The fee pool is real and already defined. Maya says it does not charge transaction fees, while partner fund managers ATRAM and BPI IMI charge management or trust fees that range from 0.50% to 1.75% per year depending on the fund. That means the upside is tied to assets gathered and retained over time, not to trading frequency.
  • This also follows the playbook set by the category leader. GCash offers GFunds inside its wallet, with ATRAM, BPI Wealth, and Manulife products and no buy or sell fee charged by GCash. In practice, both apps are trying to turn a payments customer into an investing customer before that cash leaves for a bank branch, broker, or standalone wealth app.

The next step is a fuller wealth stack inside the wallet, with more fund choices, stronger cross sell from high yield savings, and tighter bundling with insurance and credit. If Maya executes, more customer balances will sit inside its app across cash, investments, and protection products, which raises lifetime value and makes the app harder to replace.
