Governance is no longer enough to win this category, because the model labs are turning security controls into table stakes and bundling them inside products enterprises already buy. Audit logs, role based permissions, and sandbox boundaries matter because they decide who can launch agents, what code or systems they can touch, and what record is left for security teams. Once OpenAI and Anthropic ship those controls natively, Factory has to win on orchestration across models, not on basic enterprise readiness.

OpenAI is pushing these controls through the broader ChatGPT enterprise control plane. Codex inherits workspace level RBAC, compliance logging, and admin controls, which lets a buyer turn on coding agents inside an existing enterprise contract instead of buying a separate governance layer.

Anthropic is doing the same from the developer workflow side. Claude Code started terminal first, then added sandboxing with filesystem and network isolation, while Anthropic enterprise plans include audit logs and role based permissions. That narrows Factory's old edge in secure autonomy.

Factory still occupies a different spot in the stack. It is an agent native platform built around autonomous coding, testing, review, and maintenance, and its clearest defense is letting companies route work across providers so they are not locked into one lab's models, pricing, or roadmap.
The market is moving toward a split where labs own the default in house path, and neutral platforms survive by managing multi model workflows across enterprise systems. As OpenAI and Anthropic keep absorbing security features into Codex and Claude Code, Factory's future value shifts toward control plane logic, provider switching, and policy enforcement above the model layer.
