it's not the wedge that we needed because we're SMB-first

Adapta is choosing the faster adoption loop over the more complex integration wedge. For Brazilian SMBs, the first problem is not searching across dozens of SaaS tools, it is getting owners and small teams to do real work in one AI workspace, then turning that usage into broader team rollout. That makes product breadth, education, and workflow building more important early on than enterprise grade cross app retrieval.

  • Glean won first by indexing scattered enterprise knowledge across apps like Slack, Zendesk, Confluence, Notion, and Jira. That wedge fits companies with many systems, many seats, and expensive coordination problems. Adapta describes a different starting point, owner led adoption in services SMBs that want one paid AI tool for chat, internal tools, automations, and websites.
  • The product already includes some retrieval and integrations, but inside the Adapta workflow that becomes a feature, not the sales hook. The company says customers use it to build CRMs, client portals, landing pages, dashboards, and automations in one place, which reduces the need to stitch together a long tail of external software before value shows up.
  • The Notion and HubSpot comparison is about go to market sequence. Both built broad SMB habits first, then moved upmarket. Adapta is following the same pattern, using fast SMB feedback cycles and education driven distribution to get embedded before investing heavily in enterprise style procurement, compliance, and connector depth.

As Adapta pushes toward becoming the system a business owner opens first on Monday, search will become more important as a natural layer on top of work already happening inside the product. The likely path is SMB dominance first, then a later move into deeper enterprise search, compliance, and integration features once there is a larger installed base to support it.
