Lila's AI Experimental Loop

The real difference is that Lila is trying to replace a larger part of the scientist’s daily loop, not just rent out robotic bench space. Cloud labs like Emerald Cloud Lab and Strateos let a researcher log in, choose instruments, submit protocols, and get data back from automated equipment. Lila is positioning its AI Science Factory as a system where models also propose what experiment to run next, write the protocol, trigger the lab work, and learn from the result.

• Emerald Cloud Lab is built around remote execution. Scientists specify the experiment and its parameters, then ECL runs it on more than 200 instrument types through a software interface. That is valuable infrastructure, but the scientific question and experimental plan still originate with the human team.

• Strateos similarly focuses on remote control of automated workflows and clean machine readable data. Its pitch is faster design, make, test, analyze cycles through browser based lab access. That improves lab throughput, but it is different from having an AI system generate the hypothesis and choose the next experiment itself.

• LabGenius is closer to Lila because it couples machine learning with wet lab iteration, but it is aimed at antibody and nanobody optimization. That makes it a narrower closed loop system, where the model is tuning a defined therapeutic format, rather than a general lab layer spanning biology, chemistry, and materials science.

The market is moving from lab automation as a service toward automated discovery systems that decide as well as execute. If Lila can make that loop work across multiple scientific domains, it will compete less with contract lab platforms and more with the way R&D teams themselves decide what to test, where the real budget and strategic control sit.
